DNA 6.10. - 24.10.1999
The discovery of DNA structure in 1953 (J. Watson & F. Crick) was one of the most important discoveries of this century. It has had important implications for the studies on the origin of life and has lead to the development of gene technology. Gene technology has been beneficial but also caused risks and fears.
In modern agriculture the properties of animals and plants are modified to fulfill the modern requirements. Plants and animals are aimed to be productive, beautiful and long lasting from a human perspective.
In the past these requirements were reached by chemicals and artificial selection, nowadays it is done using gene technology. There are no limits to gene technology. Genes can be transferred from one species to another, from animals to plants, from humans to animals etc. Additional, novel genes can be produced.
My painting are based on DNA-studies, where DNA is made visible with color from the Digitalis purpurea-plant.
